So, you’ve made another great song. The beat is tight, the bass is grooving, the vocals are dialed in – but something’s still missing. For whatever reason, your track just isn’t hitting the way it should.

Sounds like your song needs to be mastered.

Mastering is the last stage of the music production process, when a final round of processing is applied to mixed tracks. This typically includes compression, equalization, limiting, and adjusting the overall level. But, more involved edits can be done as part of the mastering process as well. The result is the master: the final highest-resolution version that will then be distributed and copied.

For the last century, mastering was one of the most difficult elements of music production. It requires an incredibly sensitive ear, specialized gear and software, and a lot of time. That all means that professional mastering services and hiring an audio engineer are extremely expensive, sometimes costing thousands per song.

Fortunately, today’s musicians and producers have access to mastering tools with artificial intelligence. These AI-powered tools are exponentially faster, cheaper, and better than existing plug-ins, and most of them work in your web browser. And the results are so good, you’d never suspect they’re AI.

Let’s look at the six best AI mastering tools:

Kits AI Audio Mastering

Kits is a complete suite of AI vocal production tools in your web browser. In addition to mastering, Kits offers: Voice Training (to clone voices), Voice Conversion with 40+ royalty-free voices, a Vocal Remover, and more.

Kits’s mastering tool is built around six high-quality premade presets:

  • Light & Bright

  • Bass Heavy

  • Punch & Air

  • Lush

  • Tape Glue

  • Analog Warmth

Since the process works in just seconds, you can experiment to see which fits your style best. You can also upload a reference track, which the AI will use as a model for the final sound.

Kits is the most AI-driven project on this list, with a distinct focus on singing and voices. This expertise leads to better results in the final master.

Kits is also one of the only mastering tools on this list with completely free pricing options.

Emastered

While many of the choices on this list offer a suite of music tools, Emastered is focused completely on AI mastering services for songwriters.

You can customize the Mastering Intensity, Compressor Intensity, Equalization Intensity, Stereo Width, Volume, and 3-Band EQ. But, these settings are only available with a paid plan

Emastered does not have any readymade presets, although you can save settings for later use. You can also use a reference track.

Emastered costs $19.99/month for access to settings and unlimited downloads.

Landr Mastering Plugin

Landr is another music production suite, which includes a sample and plugin library, collaboration tools, and distribution services in addition to AI mastering. Landr also makes a more advanced mastering plugin workflow, but we’ll focus on the web version here.

Landr’s customization options are a bit more limited than other tools, with just Style (Warm, Balanced, Open) and Loudness controls. You can also upload a reference track. Landr’s mastering tool tends to work on the slower side compared to others on this list as well.

The most unique feature is Album Mastering. Upload up to 20 tracks to get consistent mastering across an entire album and in one file. Make sure to add any silences or fades before uploading, as Landr Album Mastering can’t add these.

Landr costs $19.99/month for unlimited MP3 downloads and 3 WAV downloads, and $39.99/month for unlimited WAVs. Other Landr features are included in the paid plans.

BandLab

BandLab is a cloud-based music music production suite, with tools for everything from recording to distribution. Its main product is BandLab Studio, a web browser DAW with a large library of samples.

Its AI mastering tool is somewhat limited by comparison, offering just four presets: Universal, Fire, Clarity, and Tape. You can download the mastered track as a WAV file, or import it to BandLab Studio.

There is no support for reference tracks. Also, BandLab does not seem to integrate AI into its mastering tool, meaning results may be less dynamic and precise.

BandLab’s mastering tool is free to use, while other features require paid plans.

Cryo-Mix

Cryo-Mix offers AI Mixing and Mastering, as well as a Beat Optimizer and Audio Separator.

Cryo-Mix functions similarly to Emastered, giving you detailed settings but no presets. EQ Correction strength, 3-Band EQ, Stereo Width, and Loudness can all be controlled with sliders. Cryo-Mix also allows you to change settings after uploading and mastering the track for quick revisions.

The most unique feature is AI Mixing, which is combined with mastering. Upload up to 6 instrument and 6 vocal tracks, and Cryo-Mix will use AI to layer them optimally. Then, it will master the whole song.

The Mixing and Mastering tools cost $19.99/month for unlimited WAV downloads.

CloudBounce

CloudBounce is a dedicated mastering tool developed by the famous Abbey Road Studios. CloudBounce uses AI to achieve “crystal clear and airy sound quality.”

CloudBounce has perhaps the most interesting interface on this list. You can choose to use one of 15 genre presets (with many electronic subgenres) or choose specific settings for loudness, warmth, brightness, stereo width, mids, and bass from a hexagonal grid. But, CloudBounce does not support reference tracks.

CloudBounce is the only tool on this list to offer per-track paid mastering, at $10.90. This includes a 16-bit WAV, 24-bit WAV, and MP3. Unlimited use costs $21.90/month.

Finding the Right Online Mastering for You

The range of AI mastering tools on the market can be overwhelming. But you can narrow down your decision: Do you want to use existing presets or control your own settings? What about reference tracks? You might also choose based on the other features a tool offers, such as Vocal Training and Conversion on Kits, Album Mastering on Landr, or AI Mixing on Cryo-Mix. But no matter which you choose, you’ll make better-sounding music for less time and money with AI mastering.
